Casting a vote

By Sandra Lee Schubert | November 4, 2008

I don’t know about you but I am very relieved to have cast my vote and can now just watch the results.

Before I left and turned off TV I saw Obama with his daughters as he cast his vote. Can you imagine the imprint it will leave on his two daughters, no matter the outcome, to see their father’s name on the ballot?

I wasn’t allowed into the booth when my parents voted. I just remember feeling scared when they disappeared behind the curtain.

I didn’t get a chance to see the other candidates vote before I left.

This morning I wanted to be a part of the process. Honestly it is the first time in many years I felt energized, emotional and actively involved in the whole thing.

These are the kind of events that become part of the narrative of our life. Where were you when Kennedy was shot? 9/11? When Pearl Harbor was bombed… the events of history have meaning for us because they change things in big and small ways.

Take the time to remember these moments… Write about them. Share them. Take advantage of history before it takes advantage of you.
